How do you protect yourself?

 I don't carry any weapons, or even own any. I guess my only protection is trusting people not to be a***** and attack me, and avoid starting any fights myself. It's worked so far.

The more I've learned how to fight, the more comfortable I've become at the thought of turning the other cheek/running away/avoiding things in general unless I have no other choice. I feel that a lot of the time you can avoid altercations just by avoiding eye-contact: if you're able to avoid smashing someone's jaw in or having your own jaw get smashed just by allowing someone else to feel superior, then it's more than worth it if the only cost is appearing vulnerable/submissive/whatever.

I've never experienced anything involving a knife or weapon in general, though, so I can say all I want about having a plan a, b, c and even d(ick), but it's difficult to say what you would do if you've not been through the situation before with the pressure of knowing it's real, so in all honesty I'd have no idea what to do in that situation if I wasn't able to run away. If they were mugging me then I'll just give them whatever; if it was an attack for the hell of it then f*** knows.
Yeah, outside of sparring with friends I don't get in to fights anymore. I'll avoid them as much as possible, especially when I am carrying a gun, because that's never a good thing to involve in a fist fight no matter who has it. I don't care at all about superiority if it'll avoid physical violence.

I've only been in a weapon fight fight once, and even then it was for 2 seconds. I kicked the guy closest to me in the testicles, he went down pretty quick, then I turned around and sprinted as fast as I possibly could away from there. They started to give chase but I've walked all over my area and I knew about 50 different ways to get away. If you have the option to, never enter a knife fight.

There's a saying regarding knife fights that is pretty accurate: "In a knife fight, the loser dies on the street and the winner dies in the ambulance on the way to the hospital."

Now, if you have no choice but to fight back, the best thing you can really do is wrap a jacket or a thick shirt around your arm without your knife/fighting tool and use that to block cutting attacks. It's not ideal protection but anything is better than nothing. It won't stop stabbing attacks but if they're not using a razor sharp knife it'll help mitigate cuts from slashing with knives. A machete or sword will take your arm clean off so never attempt it with those.

 How do I protect myself? I challenge would be attackers who approach me to Duel Monsters, where the prize is whatever belongings I have on me at the time.

Haven't lost anything so far.


In all seriousness though, I usually stick to public places and just avoid areas that are known for frequent trouble.
